Plumbing a call! - London
When it comes to your yearly energy bills,
your heating will account for around 60 percent of what you spend. Newer
boilers are obviously more fuel efficient for a number of reasons as they are
now created with this in mind. If your boiler is well maintained then it will
be burning fuel efficiently and keeping, while still losing energy with heat
through the flue. If you want to make significant savings with your energy
bills, before hitting any price comparison sites – your first point of call
should be your boiler!
What
should I be considering when I think about replacing your boiler? If you are going to be replacing your
boiler soon, you should start thinking about which kind of
Based on the average fuel usage statistics from March 2016, oil is a more
economically viable energy solution even though it has historically always been
one of the more expensive. Depending on where you live, you may not have a gas
supply to your house, in which case a heat pump or biomass may be a good idea
of low carbon heating. The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (Domestic RHI) is
a financial incentive from the UK government, to promote the use of renewable
energy. It is because of this incentive that renewable energy may be the
cheapest alternative. If you can, you
may want to get a gas supply set up to your home, and the company who operates
the local gas network in your area may be able to help with the cost – it may
even be fully funded! Be sure to contact them for further information.
It is important to consider how much hot water you
are actually using. If you have a large family living within one household (who
would likely benefit from a regular boiler), you will certainly be using a lot
more hot water than a single person in a flat (who would most likely be better
off with a combi boiler).
Most of the older gas or oil burning boilers were
normal boilers had a separate water cylinder to store any hot water, as opposed
to it being supplied directly from the boiler. If you decide to replace your
boiler then you will be able to keep your old water cylinder, or you can
purchase a combi boiler which does not require a cylinder at all. However, a
regular boiler is much more efficient than a combi when they are producing hot
water – but some heat energy will always be lost through the hot water
cylinder. It may work out that a combi boiler may be the more efficient choice

Space in your home:
If you do not have much space to fit your new boiler in your home then a combi
boiler may be the way to go as you will not need a water cylinder.
Compatibility with solar water heating:
Most combi boilers are either outright incompatible with this kind of heating
system or can’t use it effectively.
The
government can even provide grants for free boilers depending on personal
circumstances!
In January 2013 the government launched the
free boiler scheme, whereby they intend to reduce the UKs energy consumption
and to provide support through grants to low income households to improve their
energy efficiency annually.
There is also such thing as Affordable Warmth Obligation (HHCRO)
also known as the home heat cost reduction obligation which helps to provide
free boilers and insulation grants to households receive certain means tested
